Da Costa faces months out with fractured tibia

Germany U21 international Danny da Costa of second-division leaders FC Ingolstadt is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an open tibia fracture during his side’s 0-0 draw with Fortuna Düsseldorf, according to FCI. The 21-year-old defender was taken to Dusseldorf University Hospital and underwent surgery late on Friday night.

Da Costa, who has been one of Ingolstadt’s linchpins so far this season, suffered the injury after colliding with Düsseldorf’s Lukas Schmitz in the eleventh minute. “It’s a real blow for us,” said manager Ralph Hasenhüttl.
