Despite the earlier win, Liverpool still found themselves needing to make up ground on league leaders Chelsea, but Jürgen Klopp's side were unable to do so, drawing 2-2 with relegation-threatened Sunderland. Liverpool remain Chelsea's closest challengers, but could go eight points behind them by tomorrow evening, should the Blues beat Tottenham Hotspur (kick off at 21:00 CET).
Liverpool started the brighter side, taking the lead in the 20th minute through Daniel Sturridge. However, Sunderland were back level within five minutes through a Jermain Defoe penalty. Liverpool took the lead again fairly late in the game thanks to a short-range finish from Sadio Mané, but were once again pegged back by a Defoe penalty, this time with just six minutes to spare.

Leicester drew 0-0 with Middlesbrough in their Premier League encounter this afternoon. The stalemate sees them sit in 14th place, six points clear of the relegation zone.
