Can: "I want to go to France with a trophy"

Despite the fact that numerous Bundesliga clubs have now bowed out of both of Europe’s top competitions, there will be German representation in both finals. Toni Kroos and Real Madrid secured their place in the Champions League final on Tuesday and Emre Can and Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool saw off Villarreal last night to set up an exciting Europa League final against Sevilla.

Emre Can hopes that a potential European title will be the perfect motivation going into this summer’s European Championships. “I want to fly to France with a title in the bag. We are not going to Basel for a holiday. We are determined to leave the pitch winners,” said the defensive midfielder following their 3-0 second-leg semi-final win over Villarreal.

Can: "We can do it"

Can and Liverpool face Sevilla on May 18th in Basel, who have won the tournament twice in the last two years. “It won’t be easy, we’re aware of that,” he continued, “but we can do it. It’s not that easy to beat us.” Can was particularly impressed by the welcome he and his teammates received on Anfield Road before the match: “It was incredible. We could smell the flares from inside the bus.”

The English side are the only European finalists not to come from Spain. Real’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in Wednesday’s second leg mean they face Atletico in an all-Madrid Champions League final.
