Braunschweig leap into second

Eintracht Braunschweig maintained their stunning form in the second-division on Monday night. Eintracht faced 1. FC Nürnberg, who like the hosts were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, on matchday 15 of the season and recorded a 1-0 victory – their fifth in a row – which saw them go second in the table with 26 points. Nürnberg lost their first defeat under new coach René Weiler in the process and lie in 13th with 17 points.

Havard Nielsen (38’) scored his seventh goal of the season after good work from Hendrick Zuck to send the majority of the 21,515 spectators into raptures. It was a tight match in the early stages but after half an hour Eintracht took control and had chances to extend their lead, but they hung on for a well deserved victory.

Zuck (28’, 34’) and South Korean star Ryu Seung-Woo (33’, 59’) troubled the visitors’ defence during the game. Nürnberg could only really create half chances; Jan Polak (21’) and Niclas Füllkrug (51’) came close to scoring.
