Bochum remain in top spot, St. Pauli win in Leipzig

VfL Bochum tightened their grip on the top spot in the 2. Bundesliga standings following a 2-1 victory over 1. FC Nürnberg on matchday 4. FC St. Pauli meanwhile enjoyed an unexpected 1-0 victory at RB Leipzig, keeping pace with Bochum and sitting in second with ten points. The third Sunday game in Germany's second division featured a goalless draw between 1860 München and Union Berlin.

Guido Burgstaller stunned Bochum with the 1-0 opener for Nürnberg just two minutes into the game. VfL-top goalscorer Simon Terrodde levelled the score before half time. The home side took control of the match after the break and completed the comeback when Janik Haberer bagged the 2-1 winner midway through the second half.

Thy's strike sends St. Pauli to second place

RB Leipzig and FC St. Pauli entered the game as Bochum's closest pursuers in the standings and it was the away side that managed to keep pace, winning 1-0 in front of 41,795 spectators. Both teams looked to play attacking football and it was an even contest until Lennart Thy fired St. Pauli into the lead shortly before half time. The Hamburg-based side defended their lead in the second half and celebrated a huge win.

1860's Adlung misses from the spot

The game between 1860 München and Union Berlin was also a balanced affair. The best chance of the game was missed by 1860's Daniel Adlung, as his penalty attempt in the 64th minute only struck the post. Union's Michael Parensen had been sent off prior to the penalty decision for a professional foul in the area. The home side were unable to use their extra-man advantage, and Union salvaged a point from Munich.
