Boateng: “We controlled the game”

Question: Carlo Ancelotti had given Mats Hummels a break against Dortmund and allowed you to make your second starting line-up appearance after the lengthy injury break. How will Bayern’s defence shape up on Wednesday against Real?

Boateng: We will see. Of course I wouldn’t be happy if I had to sit on the bench, but I wouldn’t be able to change it either. I have a good feeling about Wednesday.

Question: Has the coach talked to you yet about Wednesday?

Boateng: No, not yet. I’ll just wait and see what happens.

Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid, FC Bayern managed a successful dress rehearsal in the Bundesliga’s Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund. On matchday 28 the record champions secured a clear a 4-1 victory over BVB and World Champion Jérôme Boateng played his part, by denying Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a goal midway through the second half.

In an interview with DFB.de the Germany international talks about Bayern’s impressive reaction following the 1-0 defeat to Hoffenheim and the upcoming encounter with Real Madrid.

Question: Mr. Boateng, Bayern’s 4-1 victory against Dortmund was a demonstration and a clear indication who rules the Bundesliga, right?

Jérôme Boateng: We played a good game against a very good opponent, especially in the first half. Dortmund had just one clear chance, while we controlled the game.

Question: You denied Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a goal, which would’ve put Dortmund back into the game.

Boateng: Yes, we were leading 3-1 when Dortmund had that big chance. We had a lead and need to be careful in these situations and prevent any counter attacks. We can’t just blindly charge forward. We already gifted them their first goal.

Question: Was it a statement victory, especially since you had lost to Hoffenheim during the week and also in regard to Wednesday’s quarterfinal first leg against Real Madrid?

Boateng: We wanted to show a reaction after Tuesday, that’s correct. But Real will be a different game. After all it’s the Champions League.
