Boateng ruled out through injury

FC Bayern München paid a dear price for their 2-1 victory at Hamburger SV on matchday 18, as World Cup winner Jerome Boateng picked up a groin injury and will thus be sidelined for the foreseeable future. FC Bayern’s media director Markus Hörwick confirmed the injury via Twitter on Saturday.

Boateng limped off the pitch ten minutes after the restart in the second half, having sustained the injury without the involvement of anyone else. “Benatia and Boateng are out and Javi Martinez isn’t fully fit yet – this is a problem,” said FCB’s coach Pep Guardiola after the victory at HSV on Friday night.

“We will still be able to play with eleven players, even if he is sidelined for a longer period of time,” emphasised Guardiola. But his players appear somewhat worried: “We seem to have very bad luck in that regard this season,” striker Thomas Müller added.
