Benjamin Köhler has won his fight against cancer. “Thank you God. I am healthy,” wrote the 34-year-old on his Facebook page on Thursday. “I want to thank everyone who has helped me on this difficult journey from the bottom of my heart.”
The former Germany youth international was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February. He has had numerous chemotherapy sessions and has spent lots of time in hospital. Union Berlin extended his contract by a further year as soon as news of the diagnosis was made public.
“Thank you to Union Berlin, who have never given up on me. Thank you to the people who visited me in hospital frequently and were always by my side. I’ll never forget you,” he added. “Thank you to my family. They were always with me. Especially my wife.”
