Bellarabi helps Leverkusen to victory, Bayern seal 1000th Bundesliga victory

The substitution of Germany international Karim Bellarabi helped Bayer 04 Leverkusen to secure a 4-3 victory against VfB Stuttgart on matchday 10. Table toppers and defending champions Bayern recorded a historic 1000th Bundesliga victory and extended their starting record to ten straight wins with a comfortable 4-0 victory over 1. FC Köln.

U21 Germany international Marc Stendera bagged a brace for Eintracht Frankfurt in their 2-1 victory at Hannover 96. Werder Bremen ended their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory at 1. FSV Mainz 05, while Wolfsburg required a late goal in Darmstadt to secure a 1-0 victory against the newly promoted side.

Leverkusen secure late win against Stuttgart

The first half between Leverkusen and Stuttgart was very lively with slight advantages for the home side. No goals were produced in the opening 45 minutes as Javier Hernandez missed the best chances shortly before the half time whistle for the hosts. The second half kicked off with two quick goals by the away team, as Marin Harnik and Daniel Didavi fired Stuttgart into a two goal lead.

Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt brought on Germany international Karim Bellarabi, who immediately rewarded his trust by scoring with his first touch. But Stuttgart responded immediately and restored their two-goal lead thanks to Lukas Rupp's goal, which was assisted by Germany U21 international Timo Werner. The hosts battled back though and Sebastian Boenisch pulled one back after an assist from Bellarabi in the 70th minute. Just one minute later they scored the equaliser through Hernandez and one minute from full time Admir Mehmedi scored the heavily celebrated 4-3 winner for Bayer 04.

Unstoppable FC Bayern

Ten games, 30 points: The 25-time German champions are setting new benchmarks this season. They are just one win away, from equalling the all-time European starting record of eleven straight wins at the start of a season (1960/1961 Tottenham Hotspur). Arjen Robben and Arturo Vidal were on target in the first half.

Bayern continued to control the action on the pitch and added two more goals after the break through Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller.

Werder score three goals in eight minutes

SV Werder Bremen were coming into this game with 1. FSV Mainz 05 on the back of five straight defeats but they took a 3-0 lead into half time following a brace by Anthony Ujah and a goal from Fin Bartels all within the space of eight minutes. Mainz attempted to comeback after the break but were merely rewarded with a consolation goal in stoppage time by Yoshinori Muto.

Wolfsburg struggled against the high-flying newly promoted team SV Darmstadt. The visitors eventually started to control the match in the second half and Daniel Caligiuri bagged the late 1-0 winner.

Stendera seals victory for Frankfurt

Hannover took the lead against Frankfurt through former U21 international Felix Klaus at the start of the second half after a fine solo-run by Hiroshi Kiyotake. Six minutes later however, Klaus' replacement in Germany's U21 side, Marc Stendera, scored the equaliser for the visitors and then added a second goal shortly after the hour-mark to secure a 2-1 victory for Eintracht.
