Olympic gold medallist Melanie Behringer is in the running for the Best FIFA Women’s Player Award 2016. FIFA revealed the three nominees on Friday, with the trio of Behringer, Carli Lloyd and Marta completing the final shortlist.

The 31-year old announced her retirement from international football after winning an Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro in the summer. Behringer was Germany’s top scorer at the Olympics this summer with five goals, however that was only one of her successes this year. Behringer won the World Cup with Germany In 2007 as well as the European Championships in 2009 and 2013.

The winner of the BEST FIFA Women’s Player Awarded will be decided by votes from captains and coaches of national teams as well as chosen members of the media. The award ceremony will take place in Zurich on Monday 9th January 2017.
