Bayern's stunning run comes to an end

FC Bayern München record-breaking run of form has finally come to an end. Their incredible 40-match unbeaten streak was ended earlier today by 1. FFC Frankfurt on matchday 18 of the Allianz-Frauen Bundesliga season. They hadn’t lost in the league since 1st June 2014. The defeat also saw them miss out on the chance to lay their hands on the title. However, they are nine points clear of VfL Wolfsburg with four games to play.

Frankfurt settled into the game nicely and Laura Störzel could have fired the Champions League winners in front after just nine minutes, however, FCB keeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela did enough to stop her from scoring. She was helpless in the 31st minute though as Saskia Bartusiak’s header flew into the back of the net to put FFC 10 up. They could have doubled their lead moments later but Mandy Islacker’s effort lacked composure.

The Bavarians cranked up the pressure after the break and hit the woodwork through Vivianne Miedema with just nine minutes to play. However, Thomas Wörle’s side were relatively harmless in an attacking sense throughout the match.
