Bayern reach cup quarterfinals

Holders Bayern Munich reached the German Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 win at Augsburg on Wednesday, but star winger Arjen Robben suffered a painful knee injury. The 29-year-old scored four minutes into Bayern's third-round tie but had to be stretchered off 12 minutes later having been sent tumbling by Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz. His replacement Thomas Mueller scored Bayern's second, heading home 12 minutes from time to put Pep Guardiola's side into the last eight. Eintracht Frankfurt's ex-Real Madrid and Spain Under-21 forward Joselu scored a hat-trick in their 4-2 win at home to second-division Sandhausen.

On Tuesday Schalke 04 lost 1-3 (0-3) against league rivals 1899 Hoffenheim to miss the quarterfinals of the German Cup. Hoffenheim scored three times in 14 minutes after defensive dropouts of the home team thanks to Kai Herdling (21), Kevin Volland (32.) and Roberto Firmino (35). Jefferson Farfan pulled one back after 67 minutes.

Regional rivals Borussia Dortmund had no problems to make it to the next round after a 2-0 (1-0) at Third League side 1. FC Saarbrücken. Julian Schieber (19) and Jonas Hofmann (49 ) hit the target. As easy as Dortmund was the step for 1. FC Kaiserslautern in an 2nd Bundesliga duel at 1. FC Union Berlin (3-0). Hamburger SV had to wait until the 84th minute, before they could celebrate their 2-1 (1-0) victory against Second Bundesliga leaders 1. FC Köln. Ivo Ilicevic released the Bundesliga team.
