Bayern: Hummels out for Real Madrid clash

The German record-champions Bayern München will have to do without world-champion Mats Hummels in their upcoming first leg quarter-final Champions League game against Real Madrid, which is scheduled for Wednesday evening (20:45 CEST). It was revealed on Sunday evening that Hummels has suffered an ankle injury. The centre-back already missed Saturday evening’s match against Borussia Dortmund, which Bayern won 4-1, and in which Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez featured as the centre-back pairing.

Hummels had previously said to the Bild that he “definitely won’t be on the pitch come Wednesday.” The central defender had to abort his training session and complained to the press about the pain. Forward Thomas Müller is back in training after suffering an ankle injury and it is expected that manager Carlo Ancelotti will have the world-champion at his disposal for the game against Real.
