Bayern go goal crazy - Two last minute levellers

FC Bayern München are on course for their 25th Bundesliga title. The Munich side beat SC Paderborn 6-0 on matchday 22 and top the table with 55 points. Elsewhere, Werder Bremen rescued a point late on against Schalke, as did Augsburg against Leverkusen, Hoffenheim and Freiburg played out a 1-1 draw and Mainz beat Frankfurt 3-1.

Six goals for Bayern

The game in Paderborn started quietly but Robert Lewandowski fired Bayern in front after 24 minutes. The Polish striker doubled the lead 13 minutes later. The second half brought with it a feast of goals: Arjen Robben fired home a penalty (62’) after Florian Harrherz was sent off. Franck Ribery made it four in the 72nd minute. Late goals from Mitchell Weiser (78’) and Robben (86’) completed the rout and put the icing on the cake for the Bavarian side.

Bremen’s winning run ends

The first half in Gelsenkirchen ended goalless and the second half threatened to go the same way until Max Meyer put Schalke in front after 61 minutes. His long range shot wasn’t dealt with properly by Raphael Wolf and it nestled in the back of the net. The Royal Blues looked like they were going to inflict defeat on Bremen but the returning Sebastian Prödl fired home in injury time to rescue a point for Werder.

New Mainz head coach Martin Schmidt won his first game in charge but his side fell behind in the 35th minute against Eintracht Frankfurt thanks to Stefan Aigner’s goal. Christian Clemens levelled the scores just three minutes later. A quick-fire double-salvo from the 05ers made the came safe early in the second half: Johannes Geis put them in front after 47 minutes; Yunus Malli made it three soon after (50’).

FCA keeper Hitz levels

Bayer 04 took the lead after just eight minutes in Augsburg thanks to Josip Drmic. Augsburg equalised shortly before the hour mark thanks to Caiuby (59’). Stefan Reinartz looked to have snatched all three points for Leverkusen in the 84th minute but Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz fired home in injury time to level the scores.
