Bayern beaten 3-0 in Paris

FC Bayern München suffered their first Champions League defeat of the season in Paris on Wednesday night, as Dani Alves, Edinson Cavani and Neymar fired PSG to a 3-0 win. Carlo Ancelotti’s starting line-up featured Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich and Niklas Süle, but Mats Hummels and Sebastian Rudy had to settle for a place on the bench, much like Paris’ Julian Draxler and Kevin Trapp.

Things couldn’t have started much worse for the visitors from Munich, as they found themselves behind inside just two minutes. Neymar’s brilliant run through the defence and neat through ball put the chance on a plate for Dani Alves, who finished through the legs of Sven Ulreich. Bayern were not without their chances, as Müller and Javi Martinez came close to equalising, but Cavani made it 2-0 around the half-hour mark with a first-time shot that Ulreich arguably should have done better with. FCB were enjoying the majority of possession and shots, not to mention a whopping 18 corners to PSG’s one, but didn’t carry the familiar goal threat that fans are used to seeing. Instead it was Paris’ big-money signings who were catching the eye, and Kylian Mbappé’s neat footwork led to Neymar firing home a third in the 63rd minute to put the game beyond Bayern’s reach.

Wins all round for Die Mannschaft players abroad

While it wasn’t Bayern’s night, the other Germany internationals involved in Champions League action were able to celebrate victories. Marc-André ter Stegen played the full 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as FC Barcelona edged out Sporting Lisbon 1-0 thanks to an own goal. Otherwise, it was a relaxing evening on the bench for Antonio Rüdiger and Sami Khedira, as they got to watch Chelsea and Juventus win 2-1 against Atletico Madrid and 2-0 against Olympiacos respectively.
