Bayern and Bremen will kick-off DFB cup semi-finals on 19th April

The DFB-Cup semi-final matches have been finalised and they will begin on Tuesday 19th April, when Cup winning record holders Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen face off in the Allianz Arena. The second match is scheduled for Wednesday 20th April and will see Hertha Berlin taking on Borussia Dortmund in the Berliner Olympiastadion. The winners of these two games will play each other in the final on 21st May.

After missing out on the final last year, Bayern made it their aim to be involved in the final in Berlin this time round. However, they will have to be careful, as Werder have recorded away wins over Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen in the last two rounds and have shown themselves to be giant killers and extremely strong away from home. Also, whenever Bremen have knocked Cologne out of the cup in the past they have gone on to win it and this year they were Werder’s opponents in the second round.

Hertha will want to make it to a DFB-final in their own stadium for the first time. Manager Michael Preetz and Coach Pal Dardai are determined to make this dream a reality, because up until now only Berlin’s amateur side has had the chance to play in a final in their own stadium, however, on that occasion Bayer Leverkusen won the Cup. Dortmund will be trying to make their third final in a row after losing to Bayern in 2014 and Wolfsburg last year. This year, manager Thomas Tuchel’s aim for the season was to win a Cup and the easiest way for Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Co. to do this is by winning the DFB-cup.
