Barca on course for final four

Marc-André ter Stegen starred as Barcelona beat Paris St. Germain 3-1 on Wednesday night. The Catalans have put themselves in a great position ahead of next week’s second leg.

Neymar (18’) opened the scoring for Barca in front of 44,000 spectators. Luis Suarez’s brace (67’ & 79’) extended the lead but Gregory van der Wiel (82’) got one back for the hosts.

It was the third time that the sides had met this season in the competition. The visitors dominated early on and Lionel Messi had two early chances to give them the lead before Neymar fired home.

Quiet night for ter Stegen

Paris St. Germain struggled to get a stranglehold in the game and their case was not helped by the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was suspended for the game having been sent off against Chelsea in the previous game. Germany’s ter Stegn had a relatively quiet night between the sticks for Barca.

His first test came in the 51st minute but he kept out Adrien Rabiot comfortably. Two excellent goals from Suarez extended Barca’s lead but a deflected effort from van der Weil means PSG have a slim chance of progressing ahead of next week’s game in the Nou Camp.
