Bambis for Löw and Schweinsteiger

Former Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger (special jury award), Germany head coach Joachim Löw (award for integration), tennis star Angelique Kerber (Sport) and Olympic hero Andreas Toba (audience’s choice award) were all winners at the Bambi awards in Berlin on Thursday evening.

“Winning the World Cup in 2014 was definitely the highlight of my career, but the home defeat in the 2012 Champions League final in Munich provided the basis for that success,” said 32-year-old Schweinsteiger, who was praised in a speech by his good friend and skiing maestro Felix Neureuther. “Before you become a champion, you first have to learn to lose and to draw the right conclusions from that,” said Neureuther.

Löw received the “terrific” award for integration on behalf of his team and made an appeal to the nation. “Let us all be part of a German team of integration. If we all give that little bit more, then this is an award for all of us.”
