Badu fires U19s to victory against Serbia

The Germany U19 national team have won their second match of the Four Nations tournament. Three days after the 3-0 win against Sweden, Marcus Sorg’s team celebrated a 1-0 win against Serbia’s U19s, with VfL Wolfsburg’s Malcolm Badu scoring the only goal of the evening at Sportpark Husterhöhe in Pirmasens.

Sorg put out a whole new team compared to the game against Sweden, in order to take a look at as many players as possible. "We wanted lots of players to be able to show what they can do and gain confidence for the upcoming matches. That’s why we changed the team completely and for many players it was their first international," explained Sorg. He seemed particularly satisfied with the performance from his players in the 1997 year group: "You have to take your hat off to them. You could see from our attack that we were playing together for the first time. In the second half it got better and better and I believe we deserved to win."

Brilliant solo effort for winning goal

2116 spectators were in attendance in Pirmasens, for a high-tempo match that saw Germany build momentum throughout. Badu was rewarded for a strong display on his U19s debut with a fine solo effort. The Wolfsburg midfielder dribbled the ball down the win, before cutting in and guided the ball into the bottom far corner.

Germany play their final match of the tournament on Tuesday (11:00 CET) at the Waldstadion in Homburg against France, who drew 1-1 with both Sweden and Serbia.
