Badstuber: "I don't have any big ambitions"

Bayern Munich's sporting director believes Holger Badstuber is well and truly on the right track as he continues his return from injury. "Holger’s already doing much better than I thought was possible by this point", said Matthias Sammer during the German champions' summer tour to the USA.

Pep Guardiola is keenly following Badstuber's progress after the 25-year-old defender tore his cruciate ligament twice within the past 19 months. "I'm very satisfied", the coach confirmed. "He doesn't have any pain, that's the most important thing. He's a great lad and before his injury he was an important defender for both us and the national team."

Robben: "He’s earned it"

Having previously featured at the 2010 World Cup and EURO 2012, the German international refuses to put himself under any pressure and insists he is "very relaxed" about his prospects. "Right now I’m just happy to be playing football again. I don't have any big ambitions."

After four operations, the fact that he is now "completely resilient again" is crucial. "I feel good and so far I've been able to complete each and every training session." During his long break, Badstuber has "changed and continued to develop. Previously I took lots of things for granted – this kind of experience puts your feet back on the ground."

The centre-back's team-mates are delighted to see him back in training. "I'm so happy for him that he’s now back with us", Arjen Robben told German sports magazine kicker. "He's earned it. It's great to be able to play alongside him again. He's a great guy and a real friend."
