Badstuber back in training after 17-month lay-off

After 17 months on the sidelines Germany international Holger Badstuber completed part of the Bayern Munich squad training programme on Thursday for the first time since sustaining a serious injury, the club reported on its official home page. Following the warm-up Badstuber also took part in passing and shooting drills for some 45 minutes before resuming his individual sports rehab programme.

“It was a very good moment and a fantastic feeling. It’s a great day for me personally,” commented Badtsuber, who was greeted onto the training ground with a round of applause from his team-mates. The 25-year-old was substituted after 37 minutes of Bayern’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Borussia Dortmund on 1 December 2012 after sustaining cruciate ligament damage. Despite a surgical repair the cruciate ruptured again in May 2013 and was replaced in an operation last October.
