Back in Ottawa: Regeneration on the bike

The Germany squad have returned to Ottawa, the scene of their first two group games, from Winnipeg. “We’re happy to be here again,” said Celia Sasic on Tuesday after arriving in the Canadian capital once again.

There’s a special reason for this: “It means that the group phase is over and that we’re progressed to the last 16,” added the attacker. Germany topped the group thanks to victories over the Ivory Coast (10-0) and Thailand (4-0) and a 1-1 draw against Norway. They face Sweden or Holland on Saturday in the next round (22:00 CEST).

Leupolz: "The bikes were a lot of fun"

New game, new city. On Tuesday morning the team headed to the airport at 07:15 local time and they took off just over two hours later (09:30). The flight lasted just over two hours and after a short 15 minute bus ride the players arrived at their new team hotel.

After lunch, the players who were on duty against Thailand undertook a regenerative bike ride. “The bikes were a lot of fun. The weather was great and we were right by the canal,” explained Melanie Leupolz, who was named the player of the game against Thailand. The remaining players took part in a training session. Preparation for Saturday’s last 16 clash is under way.
