Augsburg need extra time - Darmstadt and Frankfurt win comfortably

There were no upsets in Friday night's DFB Cup first round games, as the favourites were able to prevail. Europa League side FC Augsburg struggled for long spells of their match, however, and needed extra time to secure a 3-1 win over lower league side SV Elversberg. Newly promoted SV Darmstadt 98 recorded a comfortable 5-0 win over TuS Erndtebrück. Second division team FSV Frankfurt managed a 2-0 win over BFC Dynamo.

Markus Weinzierl's side narrowly avoided a huge upset in the opening round. Kevin Maek had put Elversberg in the lead, before Raul Bobadilla scored the equaliser with less than ten minutes left to play. Extra time goals from Sascha Mölders and Tobias Werner completed the comeback for FCA.

Darmstadt with comfortable win

Underdogs Erndtebrück were able to keep the score level for eight minutes, before new Bundesliga side bagged two goals within 74 seconds as Marco Sailer and Dominik Stroh-Engel were on target for Darmstadt. Erndtebrück fought bravely for a comeback in the club’s first ever DFB Cup game, but instead Darmstadt increased their lead in the second half thanks to goals from Marcel Heller, again striker Stroh-Engel and Konstantin Rausch.

No surprises in Berlin

Edmond Kapllani converted a fourth-minute penalty to put Frankfurt ahead against BFC Dynamo. Zlatko Dedic doubled Frankfurt's lead before half time and the 2. Bundesliga side was able to defend their lead until the final whistle, despite the fact that the hosts looked much improved in the second half.
