Arsenal FC and their German World Champions Mesut Özil and Shkodran Mustafi suffered a crucial defeat in the Premier League’s title race, losing 3-1 at local rivals Chelsea. Emre Can and Liverpool also suffered a setback following a 2-0 defeat away at Hull City. With 59 points the Blues continue to lead the standings comfortably, while Arsenal have dropped twelve points back, one better than Liverpool.
Spaniard Marcos Alonso nodded home the opener for the hosts after 13 minutes, before Eden Hazard sent the Stamford Bridge into a frenzy with his brilliant individual effort to double Chelsea’s lead eight minutes after the break. Former Arsenal player Cesc Fabregas scored Chelsea’s third goal with five minutes left on the clock, before France international Olivier Giroud scored a late consolation goal.
Özil was always looking to find a breakthrough in Arsenal’s attacking third, but Antonio Conte’s side defended cleverly and closed down the space well, not allowing the Gunners to unfold.
Chelsea are now unbeaten in their four straight league games, having also secured an important draw four days ago against Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Defending champions Barcelona kept up the pressure on leaders Real Madrid by defeating Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in La Liga on Saturday. With National goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen between the posts, the Catalans closed the gap at the top of the table to one point.
Barca, who are now unbeaten in 14 games, have played 21 games - two more than Real - whose games against Celta Vigo was called off because of dangerous weather. Paco Alcacar, Argentine sensation Lionel Messi and Alexi Vidal made the 13th victory of the season a comfortable one.
