Angerer: "We played some fantastic football in the first half"

Angerer: It's only confirmed when it's confirmed. We’re going pretty well if we don’t underestimate Thailand and don’t speculate how high the victory will be. There will be goals, but only if we battle hard from the first minute.

Question: Now it’s time to pack your bags. How tough is moving about like this at a tournament?

Angerer: Travelling is the least of my worries, but I have no space in my suitcase and it will be a nightmare to shut it. It’s a phenomenon - I haven’t bought anything, yet it’s still getting harder and harder to close my suitcase.

The DFB Women's team weren’t discontent following their draw with Norway in their second group game of the World Cup. Shortly after the full-time whistle, goalkeeper Nadine Angerer analysed the game and looked ahead to the next fixture on Monday (22:00 CEST), when Germany face Thailand in Winnipeg.

Question: Nadine Angerer, what do you make of the 1-1 draw to Norway?

Nadine Angerer: We were clearly on top in the first half and played fantastic football. I think Norway didn’t really know where attack and defence was. Then for some reason we dropped down a gear in the second half. Norway became stronger and it developed into a great game.

Question: What was the reason for the poorer second half?

Angerer: I don’t want to bang on about the artificial pitch but it’s really lacklustre and hard. It absorbs energy. When it’s 20 degrees outside, underneath it's 40 degrees due to the vast amount of those black granules. It’s incredibly hot. Our style of play is very exhausting so playing on a surface like this of course doubles or triples the strain.

Question: What do you have to say on Maren Mjelde’s free kick?

Angerer: I thought to myself, 'Not bad'. I had to save myself from jumping as it would have been a waste of energy. It was simply wonderfully struck. Respect.

Question: Is topping the group still in sight for you?

Angerer: It's only confirmed when it's confirmed. We’re going pretty well if we don’t underestimate Thailand and don’t speculate how high the victory will be. There will be goals, but only if we battle hard from the first minute.
