All you need to know about the DFB-Pokal second round draw

On Sunday, the second round draw of the DFB-Pokal for the fixtures occurring on October 24th and 25th will take place. How many pots are there? Do the lesser teams still get home advantage? We answer your questions on the draw.

When is the draw?

This season, all DFB-Pokal draws will be conducted in Germany's national football museum in Dortmund. The second round draw will take place on Sunday.

How many pots are there?

Two. In the first one are all the first and second division sides and, in the second pot, there is 1. FC Schweinfurt alongside the four teams from the 3. Liga: VfL Osnabrück, 1. FC Magdeburg, SV Wehen Wiesbaden and SC Paderborn.

Why are the third tier teams in the second pot?

All third division teams are in the ‘amateur pot’ for the first and second round. From the quarter finals, all the teams are taken from one pot.

What about home advantage?

Clubs in the ‘amateur pot’ usually receive home advantage. The only exception to this is if two sides from the amateur pot drew one another in the quarter-finals. In this scenario, the team drawn first would play at home.

How many Bundesliga clubs are still in the DFB-Pokal?

16 Bundesliga teams progressed from the first round. Hamburger SV and FC Augsburg failed to reach the second round. 11 teams from the second division are also in the draw for the next round.

When will the second round ties be played?

On the 24th and 25th October, there will be four games at 18:30 CEST and four more matches at 20:30 CEST.
