Third place in the Algarve Cup, first place in the fan club vote: SC Freiburg player Sara Däbritz has been chosen as Germany’s player of the tournament by DFB.de users in a vote held by the Fan Club Nationalmannschaft powered by Coca-Cola. The U20 World Champion came out on top with 30.4% of the vote, just ahead of VfL Wolfsburg’s Alexandra Popp (26%).

FFC Frankfurt‘s Dzsenifer Marozsan (20.1%) and Simone Laudehr (12.7%), Bayern München’s Leonie Maier (8.4%) and PSG’s Annike Krahn (2.6%) were ranked third to sixth. There were 2252 votes cast in total with the winner receiving 684.

Neid: "Sara has developed very well"

Germany manager Silvia Neid was full of praise for the 20-year-old defender following her performance in the match against China. "Sara has developed very well which is fantastic to see," commented Neid. After coming on in the 78th minute in the team’s 3-1 win against Brazil, Däbritz was back in the starting line-up for the 2-1 victory over Sweden and made a great impression ahead of the World Cup in Canada (6th June – 5th July).

Däbritz is the third player to receive this title. Leonie Maier was chosen as Algarve Cup player of the tournament in 2013, while Dzsenifer Marozsan received most votes in 2014.
