Advantage Trapp and PSG in Champions League Round of 16 tie

Paris St. Germain and Kevin Trapp took a small step towards the next round of this year’s UEFA Champions League. The French champions defeated rivals Chelsea 2-1 on Tuesday night after a second-half goal from Edinson Cavani had given the hosts the lead. In the other match last night, Benfica scored late on to clinch an important 1-0 win over Zenit St- Petersburg.

Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the opening goal of the game in the 39th minute, his drilled free kick deflecting off John Obi Mikel wrong-footing Thibaut Courtois. Mikel was sure to make amends however, controlling the ball well from a Chelsea corner in what was the final act of the first half, before smashing past Trapp from close range. In the second half, substitute Cavani scored four minutes after his introduction, finishing well after being played through on goal. Guus Hiddink tasted defeat for the first time since become Chelsea boss this season. Trapp had a very good game for PSG, making a fantastic point-blank save to deny Diego Costa in the first half.

In Lisbon, Benfica secured a crucial win after Brazilian Jonas headed in during time added on. Zenit’s Domenico Criscito had a seen a second yellow card just moments earlier.
