Advantage Nürnberg: 1-1 draw in relegation play-off against Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt drew 1-1 in the relegation play-off first leg with 1. FC Nürnberg. The away goal means that Nürnberg have a slight advantage going into Monday’s return leg (20:30 CEST) while Frankfurt, who finished 16th in the Bundesliga, are at risk of their fifth relegation.

Niko Kovac’s side trailed going into the break after an own goal from Eintracht captain Marco Russ (43’) but Mijat Gacinovic equalised in the 65th minute.

Frankfurt‘s goal scorer Alex Meier said afterwards: "We dominated the game and must build on that in the return leg." Nürnberg manager René Weiler was pleased with his side’s performance: "We can live with a draw. We know what the opposition are capable of but we were very disciplined and our defence was solid."
