“Adding new momentum”: Badstuber hungry for success

26-year-old Germany international Holger Badstuber has put his long period of suffering behind him and has discovered a new role for himself in the World Cup winning side and at FC Bayern München. “A lot of my teammates have won numerous titles over the last two years – maybe helping spur us on to more success with my additional hunger is another new challenge for me,” said Badstuber in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Just like Dortmund’s Marco Reus and Ilkay Gündogan, who also missed the triumph in Rio de Janeiro due to injury, Badstuber feels tasked with “adding new momentum”. The centre back no longer wishes to concern himself with the past and his injury woes.

“I’m focusing on the future! In Bayern and the Germany national team, I’m part of two great sides that I still want to achieve big things with,” said Badstuber, whose almost 900-day absence from the DFB-Team ended in late March when manager Joachim Löw selected him in the 2-2 draw with Australia.
