Achievable tasks for German trio

Title holders 1. FFC Frankfurt, German Champions Bayern Munich and DFB-Cup winners VfL Wolfsburg have all been drawn against beatable oppositions for the round of 32 in the Women’s Champions League. The Frankfurter ladies face Standard Liege from Belgium, the Munich ladies face the Dutch ladies of FC Twente Enschede, and VfL come up against Serbian side Spartak Subotica. This was determined this afternoon at the draw in Nyon, Switzerland. The first legs will be played on 7th and 8th October, and the second legs only a week later on 14th and 15th October.

FFC Frankfurt coach Colin Bell was pleased about the short travel time, but warned to take the opposition seriously. Bayern coach Thomas Wörle is also approaching the first obstacle with great respect. "It’s a really tough task for the first round, Twente have Champions League experience," said the 33-year-old.

For the first time since the 2009-10 season there will be three German teams competing in Europe’s elite club championship. All three German teams; Frankfurt, Bayern and Wolfsburg will play their second legs at home, since they were among the seeded teams. Title defenders Frankfurt were seeded top. The German champions are taking part in the Champions League for the first time since the 2009-10 season, when they reached the last 16.

The next round for the 16 winners will be drawn out on 19th October. The final will be played on 26th May 2016 at the Città del Trocolore stadium in Reggio Emilia.
