Mario Gomez helped Besiktas extend their lead at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig, after the 30-year-old Germany international put in an impressive performance in their 4-0 win over Konyaspor. Gomez scored in the 64th minute to make it 2-0, before expertly setting up fellow attacker Gökhan Töre in the 69th minute, who made it 3-0. Oguzhan Ozyakup had put the leaders in front, and a Kerim Frei put the game to bed – a game, which had also featured former Hoffenheim player Andreas Beck. Gomez now has 13 goals in 17 matches, and is top scorer in the league alongside Antalyaspor’s Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o.
Lukas Podolski had less reason to cheer, after his Galatasary side drew 1-1 with 13th placed Kayserispor. The reigning champions find themselves 13 points behind Besiktas, but second-placed Fenerbahce have the chance to reduce the gap to just one point with a win on Monday night against Sivaspor.
