5-0 win over Italy for the U17s

Iceland, here we come! The Germany Women’s U17 side have reached this summer’s European Championship and qualified with a perfect record. Qualification was sealed with a 5-0 victory over Italy earlier today. Germany had already between Belarus (6-0) and the Czech Republic (5-1).

“That was the best half that we’ve played in this tournament. Obviously taking the lead early on helped us but we stuck to the plan throughout,” said Anouschka Bernhard after the game: “It was an emphatic victory.”

Four for Janina Minge

FC Wangen’s Janina Minge put Germany in front after just four minutes and she completed her hat-trick before the break. The 15-year-old added two goals in the 20th and 34th minutes. Bernhard’s side controlled the game throughout and scored twice more after the break. Turbine Potsdam’s Isabella Möller got on the scoresheet after 65 minutes. Minge got her fourth of the afternoon just three minutes later to seal a convincing win for Germany.

Germany have lifted the title four times and are record champions at this level. They last won the competition in 2013, when the tournament was held in England.
