4-0 victory over Brazil

Germany beat Brazil 4-0 on Wednesday evening in Fürth in a friendly ahead of this summer’s World Cup. Celia Sasic, Simone Laudehr, Melanie Leupolz und Dzsenifer Marozsán scored for the hosts.

Injuries affected Neid’s selection for the match. Nadine Angerer started between the sticks; Tabea Kemme, Annike Krahn, Babett Peter and Jennifer Cramer were in front of her. Sara Däbritz and Dzsenifer Marozsán played in holding midfield; Melanie Leupolz, Alex Popp and Simone Laudehr supported lone striker Celia Sasic.

The game took place in front of 15,000 supporters and although Marta had a chance for the visitors after eight minutes the opening exchanges lacked goalmouth action. The game lacked fluidity due to a number of tactical fouls and one of these helped created the opening goal. A Brazilian defender brought down Simone Laudehr in the box and Sasic coolly slotted the penalty home (26’). Laudehr herself doubled the scoring soon after. She latched onto a poor back header before firing home to make it 2-0 (34’).

The second half was also an intense affair and even though Germany were missing a number of key players, they were impressive and showed all of the traits necesseary to progress in a major tournament. Melanie Lupolz made it 3-0 on the hour mark. The Bayern star rounded the keeper before firing home. Marozsán completed the rout shortly before the final whistle.
