2016 promises to be a busy one for the U17s

Elite Round in Austria, European Championship in Belarus, World Cup in Jordan: The DFB U17s will busy in 2016. Anouschka Bernhard will be in action a lot this year and DFB.de takes a look at their diary.

Their busy year is already up and running. The DFB-Team will be in Salou (Spain) until Sunday taking part in a winter training camp. They beat France in a friendly on Tuesday and will face the same opposition on Thursday (16:00 CET) in another practice match.

The training camp serves as preparation for the upcoming European Championship. Germany’s current UEFA coefficient means that they have already reached the Elite Round of qualification, which will take place in Austria. They will face Switzerland (19th March), Russia (21st March) and the hosts (24th March) during the competition. A total of 24 teams will be taking part, with the six group winners plus the best runner-up qualifying for the tournament. Belarus have already qualified, by virtue of hosting the event.

The finals will take place in Belarus in May. Should Germany reach the tournament, silverware isn’t the only reward on offer. Both finalists, plus the side who wins the third-place play-off, will qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup, which takes place in Jordan in Autumn.
