2006 World Cup: Final in Berlin - Opening Game in München

The Organising Committee for the 2006 FIFA World Cup has proposed to FIFA that the Opening game be staged in München on 9 June 2006 and the Final in Berlin's Olympiastadion on 9 July 2006.

OC President Franz Beckenbauer handed the official recommendation to FIFA General Secretary Urs Linsi on Wednesday during the Countdown event in München. The decision is subject to official confirmation by the FIFA Organising Committee.

Both stadiums fulfil the FIFA criteria, which state that the venues for the opening game and Final must have a minimum capacity of 60,000 seats.

When the proposals have been ratified, the OC 2006 FIFA World Cup will prepare a match schedule, which must be submitted to FIFA by May 2004. created by dt
