2-0 victory over Serbia: Germany U19s on course for Euros

Germany’s U19 national team remain on course for the European Championships in Georgia later this year, after securing a 2-0 victory over Serbia in their second qualifying encounter. Having recorded a 2-1 win against Cyprus in their first match, the DFB team lead the standings with a perfect record from two games.

Tuesday’s match with Slovakia will conclude the qualifying segment, where manager Frank Kramer’s team will look to secure a spot at the EURO’s later this year in July. Slovakia are playing Cyprus later on Saturday and should that game end in a draw, Germany would automatically qualify for the tournament.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Aymane Barkok scored the opener against Serbia just before the break and SC Freiburg’s Jonas Busam sealed the win with four minutes left to play. Serbia finished the game with ten men, after Erhan Masovic was sent off following his second bookable offense.

Kramer’s team showed an improved performance over their scrappy 2-1 victory against Cyprus. The coach demanded that his players show a reaction against Serbia and they followed suit from the starting whistle, until Barkok eventually found the target to give the DFB Team the lead just seconds before half-time.

1,651 spectators witnessed Germany control the second half as well. Serbia, as Kramer had expected, showed no intentions of backing down, but after Masovic was sent off Germany looked for the deciding goal, which substitute Busam delivered after 86 minutes.
